If you were to have asked me just a few months ago if I would be getting back to the US for a visit anytime in the foreseeable future, my answer would have been absolutely not.
And I would have been so very wrong.
Monday, through what I can only attribute to a fortuitous convergence of unseen forces, I will be boarding a plane with my daughter from Madrid bound for Portland, Oregon! Its all very exciting, even if a bit overwhelming. 2 days ago I thought we our departure date was Wednesday. Then it looked like it might be as late as Friday just a few hours ago! But in the end Monday it is. We live down here in Andalucia and fly out of Madrid bright and early so Monday actually means taking a bus up on Sunday. We are slated to be in Granada between now and then to see a friend dance in the annual Tango Festival. Packing will consist of throwing a bunch of clothes in a suitcase and sorting it out later at this rate.
My daughter is as eager to be on the road (and in the air) again. She is quite the seasoned world traveler already at her young age. The picture above is from way back in 2007 on one of our several trips to Spain when we lived in the UK. She is holding the classroom mascot, Lucy Bear, who traveled with students during the school year. They would take a picture of themselves with Lucy and do a small report for her ‘passport’ about where they went. This was our contribution. Good memories too look back on and look forward to making more as we set off on this journey so many years later.
But no time for dwelling in nostalgia now!
Its go time and not a moment too soon. My travel legs are twitching!
